Minister Sri KT Rama Rao speaking at the launch of Apple Development Centre. Chief Minister Sri K. Chandrashekar Rao and Apple CEO Mr. Tim Cook are also seen.
The new Apple Indian office in Hyderabad facility, located on the Waverock SEZ campus, will house 4,000 developers who will work on Apple’s Maps development
4000 Indians is also equivalent to about 3 Silicon Valley salaries.Breakdown MIGHT go like this:
10 executive team interfacing with International Operations in Cupertino
40 development / build engineers interfacing with the designers in Cupertino
100 facilities (maintenance, security, cafeteria, etc.)
150 personnel management (reception, secretary, group activities)
200 IT
500 map QA managers
3000 map QA and refinement
Well "Maps" is probably an Apple definition for "Customer Call Center".Wonder how long it'll be till Apple moves it's customer service to Hyderabad .Tim's up for anything that'll save a few bucks.Basically Cook says "We will be hiring thousands of pea"NuTs" to manually enter stuff into the database which cannot possibly scan or automate in any other way in the US. I've never opened up the Apple's Maps intentionally N don't think this move is any related to maps at all.
I think what Tim Cook meant was we hire Indians in mass, not because they're good, but because they are cheap.Only $25 million? That is like $25 to TiMmy .In other words, Apple needs a much cheaper way to get Maps up to par..Well done Tim and co - Hire thousands of indian's and give them iphones, then apple's market share goes up there. Brilliant!
